Neurolytic blocks These are blocks that use nerve-destructive (neurolytic) medication including dehydrated alcohol and phenol. Nerve destruction can also be accomplished using heat (radiofrequency ablation) and cold (cryo-ablation). While cryo-ablation of peripheral nerves (like ilio-inguinal nerve and others) and radiofrequency ablation of facet joint are common, neurolytic blocks of sympathetic ganglia like stellate ganglion and celiac plexus blocks are less common as these procedures carry significant risks of side effects and commplications. |
